NFL's other unemployed anthem-kneeler finally finds a team

Stills, who protested social and racial injustice himself by kneeling during the national anthem in Miami's season opener against Tennessee on September 9, says the former NFL quarterback had just completed a workout to stay in shape. In October previous year, he filed an official grievance letter with the NFL.

Safety Eric Reid is no longer unemployed after signing a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers to help bolster a secondary that has been decimated by injuries. Hurney was out of town, and he wasn't working in the NFL when Reid was selected by the 49ers in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

"Eric has been a starting safety in the National Football League and has played at a high level throughout his career", Hurney added.

The 2-1 Panthers were in need of help in the defensive backfield after starting safety Da'Norris Searcy suffered his second concussion in five weeks and was placed on injured reserve.

"He's a physical safety with good ball skills and he makes plays and he has experience", Hurney said.

The former LSU standout safety also was in talks with the Tennessee Titans before flight issues led to the team's signing of former New Orleans Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro.

The free agent had gone unsigned throughout the offseason and into the start of the regular season despite a solid season playing multiple roles in San Francisco a year ago.

"I hope so", he said. I wanted to do something, but didn't know what or how to do it. Reid will likely start next to Adams and has experience at both the free and strong safety position; he has played both as recently as the 2017 season. Eric is a good player. But no one signed him after his contract expired at the end of last season. "I don't think Reid signing a contract would wipe away" the grievances, Lenz said. Now that he's on a roster for the first time since last season, could the door suddenly be ajar for the activist quarterback as well?

The Panthers are next set to hit the gridiron on October 7 to face off against the New York Giants.
