Nokia 7.1 Hands-on Review | HDR-ready Android One

HMD Global has been on phone launching spree this year and the Nokia 7.1 is the latest in its lineup of devices that have started sounding abnormal. On another hand, the 4GB/64GB variant has an average retail price of European Union 349 (about RM 1665).

In India, we've seen them launch the 6.1 Plus and the 5.1 Plus that are priced at Rs 15,999 and Rs 10,999 respectively.

HMD Global announced the Nokia 7.1 earlier today.

If you have one of the later Nokia phones, however, you're in luck. Successor to last year's Nokia 7, the Nokia 7.1 was launched at an event in London on Thursday.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the Nokia 7.1 is more or less similar to the Nokia 6.1 Plus, barring a few changes here and there. Nokia 7.1 does have an upper with ZEISS lens on its cameras, but a thorough review will give a better idea. A microSD card tray with support for up to 400GB of extra storage is included as well, together with dual-SIM capabilities (in a Hybrid SIM setup, meaning you have to choose between an extra SIM card and a microSD one) and a 5.84-inch display panel.

Nokia 7.1 will be available in two colours: gloss midnight blue, and gloss steel.

It doesn't just look good, though: the curved sides ensure that the handset sits snugly in the hand, and make it easy to use the rear-mounted fingerprint reader without adjusting your grip or shuffling the phone about too much in your palm. Here are all the details on the new Nokia 7.1. Software-wise, the phone boots the stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo. Nokia has also added the Pro Camera, allowing you to fiddle with advanced settings when taking an image - and updated its dual capture "Bothie" mode to offer additional customization over your live streams.

Rear camera: The Nokia 7.1 sports a dual camera setup that includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. The imaging software of the Nokia 7.1 also supports real-time conversions of SD content into HDR one, delivering better contrast and truer blacks even in videos that haven't been captured with the new display technology in mind.

The single front 8MP camera comes with a new AI assisted portrait mode - we weren't able to test it, but I wouldn't expect excellent results here. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor backed by a 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0.

The Nokia 7.1 features a 3060mAh battery that can be charged via Type-C USB port and fortunately, the smartphone supports fast-charging that takes the battery life from 0-50 percent in 30 minutes. For selfies, you get an 8-megapixel fixed focus snapper on the front.
