Hamilton WINS Japanese Grand Prix as Vettel struggles to sixth place

Social media has been buzzing since the end of the race, and majority have been openly critical about the reckless driving style of Sebastian Vettel while others have praised the calmness of Hamilton, who has consistently been the top man under pressure and has now opened up a whopping 67-point lead over his closest challenger in Vettel himself.

Ferrari ace Vettel started in sixth place but soon rose to fourth before shunting Max Verstappen's Red Bull and dropping to the back of the pack.

Mercedes' British driver Lewis Hamilton is on the verge of winning his fifth world title.

Vettel tried to sound optimistic, saying "there are a lot of races in which we can improve this season and next" but the hopes of the German four-time world champ are all but dashed for this year. Ricciardo finished fourth for Red Bull after starting way back in 15th.

"The whole weekend has been incredibly strong for the team", Hamilton said.

Sunday's win was Hamilton's sixth in seven races and fourth in a row.

That is the news from Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, after the Sochi-Suzuka double header in which Finn Bottas was clearly playing the "number 2" role in support of runaway championship leader Lewis Hamilton.

"We've gone from strength to strength as a team", Hamilton said.

Hamilton has a 67 point lead over Vettel, with just 100 on offer from the final four races in the USA, Mexico, Brazil and the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

"I can't wait to unleash this beast in Austin", he added, pointing at his vehicle. "We've gone from strength to strength this year as a team but I'm taking it one step at a time". A poorly calculated overtaking move, however, resulted in the German colliding with the Dutchman and spinning off track and falling to the 18th place as a outcome.

The German was trying to pass Verstappen, who still had to serve a fivesecond penalty, for third place at the fast left-handed sweep of Suzuka's Spoon corner when they made contact, with Vettel spinning around. "In that corner you can't overtake", shrugged the Dutchman, who had earlier received a five-second penalty for nudging Raikkonen off the track.

Mexican Sergio Perez took best of the rest honours for Force India in seventh while Romain Grosjean was eighth for Haas. "That's probably the end of his championship".

The second Force India of Esteban Ocon came in ninth with Renault's Carlos Sainz Jr 10th.
