Israel raids Palestinian village after deadly shooting

Closed-circuit footage from the scene showed a man holding a handgun and wearing a backpack, fleeing down a flight of stairs and then dashing past stunned onlookers.

Israeli border guards, police and military forces continue their massive manhunt for the terrorist who carried out the attack at the Barkan Industrial Park near the city of Ariel in Samaria.

The army called the shooting a "terrorist attack", adding however that other unspecified factors were involved.

Magen David Adom emergency medical services said their medics had entered a building at Barkan where they found a man and a woman without pulse, and pronounced them dead.

According to local media, a third woman, 54, was injured and transferred to a hospital.

Gaza's Hamas rulers and other militant groups praised Sunday's attack, but none claimed responsibility for it.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for his part, vowed to bring the attacker to justice.

The suspected assailant worked at the park, which employs both Israelis and Palestinians.

This, however, fails to explain the first headline of the New York Times in response to a brutal terror attack on Sunday in the Barkan Industrial Zone where a Palestinian murdered Kim Levengrond Yehezkel, 28, and Ziv Hagbi, 35.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin said: "This was not only an attack on innocent people going about their daily lives, it was also an attack on the possibility of Israelis and Palestinians co-existing peacefully".

Most countries consider settlements that Israel has built on land occupied in the 1967 Middle East war as illegal.

Last month, a Palestinian teenager stabbed an Israeli to death at a junction at the entrance to a large bloc of Israeli settlements in the West Bank near Jerusalem.

Note that the caption of the accompanying photograph from the scene states that "three Israelis were shot by a Palestinian co-worker".
