Eagles' Ajayi reportedly has torn ACL

One day after a brutal loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles were busy on the transaction wire.

The Eagles announced Monday that they placed him on injured reserve with a knee injury suffered in Sunday's loss to the Vikings, and multiple National Football League journalists reported that Ajayi had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Plans can change, so a trade for Bell shouldn't be ruled out.

McCoy has two years left on his current deal.

- Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 8, 2018Roster Move: #Eagles have placed RB Jay Ajayi on Injured Reserve and claimed DT T.Y. McGill. He was a key contributor to the team's first Super Bowl victory past year.

Expectations were high for Ajayi heading into the 2018 season as the team's No. 1 running back, and this will certainly put Philadelphia in an interesting position in the offseason when it comes to what to potentially do over his contract situation. Those players include Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood, Darren Sproles and Josh Adams, all of whom have already seen playing time this season.

On a short week, the Eagles participated in a walkthrough practice Monday and while the injury report is just an estimation in such circumstances Clement was listed as a full participant. If they were to add another running back, then they might have a decision to make. The Eagles have roughly $10.5 million in cap space available this season. Philadelphia is just 2-3 comping off of its Super Bowl-winning campaign.
