Raikkonen wins US Grand Prix, Ricciardo puts fist through wall

Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo had a mixed weekend at the United States Grand Prix, but before the racing got underway, their team gave them a little treat.

Ricciardo's race last just eight laps until he pulled over at the side of Turn 11 with a terminal auto problem.

"It's incredibly frustrating to retire so early in the race and I just don't seem to have any luck at the moment", the Australian said.

'It was an identical issue to that which he had in Bahrain where it was a complete shut down.

"The Renault guys in the garage apologised, which we appreciate, but the frustration is for Daniel".

Verstappen took a grid penalty in Austin and started from 18th position, yet his aggressive driving style enabled him to fight his way to the front of the field.

While the exact cause of Ricciardo's retirement isn't clear, and may not be entirely down to Renault, the Australian remains undaunted by his decision to switch teams and insists he was always aware that he wasn't jumping straight into a championship challenging vehicle.

Christian Horner was full of praise for Max Verstappen after the Dutchman's awesome drive through the field in the United States Grand Prix, with the twenty-one-year-old climbing from eighteenth on the grid to finish second.

"From a team point of view, all we want to do is finish the year on a high with him and have a chance to celebrate the time that he has been with us".

There must be frustrations obviously within him. "He knows we're doing everything we can, it's just one of those things".

And his woes will continue, predicts Marko, with Ricciardo not getting a break from the Renault engine which has scuppered any plans for a title challenge in his final year at Red Bull. I'm sure he'll have a few words with his future employer about it. We had a vehicle strong enough to do that.

"We're lacking that horsepower, and this will give us a fairer chance on a Saturday, and you can see we've got a good race vehicle".
