Jose Mourinho warns Paul Pogba to change his penalty-taking technique

United's designated taker is Pogba and, after his stuttering run-up, Jordan Pickford saved mid-height to his right but the Frenchman rolled home the rebound.

Martial doubled United's advantage in the second half with an impressive finish and though Everton would pull one back from a penalty of their own with 13 minutes left, questions will be asked as to why Chris Smalling wasn't shown a second yellow card for his late sliding tackle on Richarlison.

United's victory was built on another impressive performance from Anthony Martial, who won a penalty in the first half and scored the second shortly after half-time.

Post the match, a hilarious video emerged, comparing Pogba's penalty run up with Usain Bolt's 100-metre sprint and as it turns out, the Jamaican covered the distance faster than Pogba took to hit is penalty yesterday.

'I was lucky, ' Pogba said.

"When he did his run-up I knew where he was going to go and I saved it, but unfortunately it went back out", Pickford told Everton's club website.

"He wants to take them".

"I think Pogba is one of the best players in the world, so it would be wonderful [if he came back], but he is at Manchester [United] and therefore talking about it is futile".

"I think the goalkeepers don't move and they are waiting for his decision so I think he probably has to learn from that".

He said: "We needed to win, we needed points".

Sigurdsson took a more orthodox approach to his effort than Pogba, blasting an unstoppable shot past De Gea into the corner.

At his prematch news conference on Friday, Mourinho said he has got striker problems. It was good for us and it was good for me. "They scored a fantastic goal but we had a good chance to score at 2-1". Some teams without the ball, can resist and keep a clean sheet all the time. It was hard for us.

"And to score goals is really hard for us - you can see that in this moment".

The result also vindicated Mourinho's decision to drop struggling centre-forward Romelu Lukaku from his starting line-up after the Belgian worldwide had failed to score in his previous eight games.

"Let me choose the words carefully because I don't want to be punished". I've been a player and if I'm in that game, on the pitch and as close to incidents like that as you can get, it's not a penalty.
