Blizzard announces Diablo Immortal for mobile devices, opens pre-registration

The new Diablo Immortal mobile game may not have been what fans were expecting, but the response by fans during the question and answer session is rude and uncalled for.

November 2, 2018-Blizzard Entertainment today unveiled the next game in the storied Diablo® franchise, Diablo Immortal™, a mobile massively multiplayer online action-role-playing game for Android™ and iOS devices.

If you want to be among the first to play Diablo Immortal, you can "pre-register" on the official site. It will include touch controls which will allow players to begin an ability, charge it up, aim it, and fire it from just a single thumb input.

Even though the Diablo franchise is named after the titular Prime Evil Diablo, he's hardly the game world's only big bad.

Diablo Immortal is a brand new Diablo game that takes place between Diablo II and Diablo III.

In their quest to cleanse Sanctuary, players will embark on all manner of thrilling expeditions, including taking part in dynamic events across unique public zones, and hacking and slashing their way through instanced dungeons. And, true enough, the onstage announcement showed off Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Necormancer, Wizard and Monk classes.

And Blizzard stresses that this is a traditional "fully-fledged" Diablo experience, complete with six traditional classes, challenging boss fights and deep gameplay. Online play will use a modified version of Blizzard's Battle.net interface.

Diablo III's power-building system is flexible enough for an afternoon or a full season.

At the time of publication, Blizzard/Activision has not actually announced any form of a release date for Diablo Immortal, but we can all keep our fingers crossed that it arrives sooner rather than later.

Thanks to Destructoid, we have a clear image of what the upcoming Treasure Goblin amiibo could possibly look like for Diablo III: Eternal Collection on Nintendo Switch.
