Thugs of Hindostan initial reviews: Fans and critics express disappointment

Helmed by the "Dhoom 3" director Vijay Krishna Acharya, "Thugs Of Hindostan" also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh and Lloyd Owen in significant roles. The third and final reason is that the film boasts of superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif. The ones who have watched it took to Twitter to slam it resoundingly and also posted an array of amusing memes.

The film is set in the backdrop of British India when some revolutionary were fighting against the British government for the freedom of India.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh described the film as a "golden opportunity lost". For this enormous response, lead actor Aamir Khan thanked the audience and said, "Just heard the 1st-day collection of Thugs, I am humbled by the love and affection of the audience". But will find it hard to sustain after the initial euphoria settles down. All that glitters is NOT gold... Holds true for #TOH. What ensues from hereon forms the crux of "Thugs Of Hindostan". Some engrossing moments in the first hour, that's about it. Formula-ridden plot, screenplay of convenience, shoddy direction are the main culprits'.
