Microsoft patches actively exploited vulnerability, re-releases Windows 10 update

Microsoft has always run into a few issues when it comes to their Windows 10 updates, and the latest October version is evidence of that.

The journey for a universal dark theme in Windows 10 seems to have all but concluded in the eyes of Redmond employees. After the April update got delayed, deployment of the October update was rapidly suspended to investigate reports of files being deleted from computers on which the update was installed.

November 13 marks the revised start of the servicing timeline for the Semi-Annual Channel ("Targeted") release for Windows 10, version 1809, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server, version 1809.

There was no word on when Microsoft might push the update out to all users, something it has done in the past, although Cable noted that Microsoft was slowing the rollout "to more carefully study device health data".

Windows 10 test build No. 18282 has gone out to Fast Ring Insiders this week and dishes up a new theme that lightens the appearance across the entire operating system.

In order to install the October 2018 Update, you will have to go to Windows Update in Settings and "Check for updates". That includes checking Windows installations before running the update to make sure there are no compatibility issues. If your system is eligible, you should see the update.
