The Elton John Lewis Christmas Ad Is Here To Make You Cry

The move comes ahead of John Lewis' much-anticipated Christmas campaign, which is reported to contain a starring role for the musician.

John Lewis' Christmas advert 2018 has finally arrived!

"This year's story is about the power of a gift".

Instead, the ad reverses the order of events and comes to focus on the moment young Elton first sat down to play his grandmother's piano.

The ad first airs on television tonight at 9.15pm during ITV's Dark Heart. That little boy just happens to be Elton John.

However, Elton is said to have asked for a portion of his undisclosed fee to be donated to the Elton John Charitable Trust.

However, the decision to use Sir Elton may have split opinion more than usual, with some on Twitter questioning if the advert was just a promo for the singer.

The TV ad, which runs two minutes and 20 seconds, features John in the opening scene, playing "Your Song" on a piano, before his life and times flash past, and we discover that a Christmas gift he received as a boy triggered his successful career.

I'm not crying, you are.

It's not the first time that "Your Song" has been used in a John Lewis Christmas advert, as Ellie Goulding's cover was used back in 2010.

Customers at the retailer's flagship Oxford Street branch can also step into a 2,000 square foot recreation of the ad production set to try on some of the costumes, listen to recordings from Elton John's 17-11-70 album and have photos taken at the piano.

But there will be no plush versions of Sir Elton.

However, some fans are far from impressed claiming the advert is nothing more than a shameless plug for his final tour and his upcoming biopic Rocket Man as well as landing him a massive pay day.
