Ocasio-Cortez Lashes Out at Republicans for 'Drooling' Over Her Missteps

Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claims that she's unable to afford an apartment in Washington, D.C., until she begins collecting her congressional salary, but records show she has more than enough to plunk down on an apartment in the USA capital. The suggestion began when she tweeted a question during the weekend: "How is Columbus Day a holiday but Election Day not?"

On another occasion, Ocasio-Cortez complained that when she was on Capitol Hill for her orientation as a new lawmaker, people were mistaking her for an intern. The Washington Examiner reporter tweeted a picture of Ocasio-Cortez taken from behind, with the following caption: "Hill staffer sent me this pic of Ocasio-Cortez they took just now". He eventually deleted the tweet. And she reminds followers she's a regular, everyday working class American.

As a young, female Democratic politician however, Ocasio-Cortez is both sadly and predictably attracting a lot of conservative trolls, on Twitter and otherwise - yet she manages to deflect her critics with sharp wit and confidence. She also shares recipes on her story and easily chatted with 600,000 people while she made loaded macaroni and cheese in an Instant Pot.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's first two days in the nation's capital have been an adventure. "So I find it - you know I - I've not totally bought into the concept".

Ocasio-Cortez even tried to defend the comments by saying Republicans should stop - in her words - "drooling over every minute of footage of her".

Ocasio-Cortez closed by pledging to vote for Pelosi for Speaker - if, of course, Pelosi is the "most progressive" candidate on the slate.

At this point in history, added Sandberg, if "Democratic leaders won't advance policies to create a safe future for all, they should expect a new generation of candidates to stand up and take their places".

After defeating Democrat incumbent Joe Crowley in one of the biggest upsets of the 2018 midterm elections, Ocasio-Cortez noted that she was in between jobs and without an income.

Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter and said, "If I walked into Congress wearing a sack, they would laugh & take a picture of my backside". She runs on a progressive platform and wants similarly-minded people to get elected the same way she did - by challenging centrist Democrats and thus shifting the entire party to the left.

Earlier, Ocasio-Cortez criticized the "electoral system" because she can't receive her congressional salary until she's sworn in as a member of Congress.

It was the latest in a series of complaints the socialist political newcomer has made on social media since winning her election November 6 in New York's 14th Congressional District, which includes parts of New York City.
