According to the Riverchase Galleria website, the mall was scheduled to open until midnight (local time), and was scheduled to open at 6:00 a.m. for Black Friday shopping.

Tweets from individuals on the premises at the time indicate that employees in several stores near the shooting pushed shoppers away from doors and windows. The two injured people have been hospitalized.

Two individuals got into a physical altercation near the Foot Action store inside the Galleria, Rector said.

"They acted with such heroism".

"You just don't bring guns into a crowded mall", he said.
