NYPD finds couple who dropped engagement ring down street grate

NYPD finds the engagement ring after a proposal attempt goes south on the streets of Times Square.

Shortly after proposing in New York City, a man accidentally dropped his fiancé's engagement ring down a NYC grate in Times Square.

According to the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the woman said yes.

The couple asked police for help, but emergency service officers could not immediately find the sparkler.

On Twitter and Facebook Sunday, the NYPD issued an all-hands bulletin. A tweet about the shiny, recovered ring stuck out in a Twitter feed also featuring close-up pictures of firearms that had been seized.

A short surveillance video released by the New York Police Department shows Drennan lying down on the ground, peering into the abyss in a desperate search for the lost ring. "So so happy to have ring back!" And when they ended up in Times Square, the ring fell off.

NYPD Police Commissioner James P. O'Neill confirmed that the couple had been in touch.

The NYPD had been looking for the couple since Saturday, after getting the ring out of the grate.

She crouches down next to him, trying to help but they are unsuccessful.

He then tweeted a photo of the happy couple, saying: "Congrats to John and his betrothed, Daniella (they're from across the pond, about 2 hours north of London)".

"Thank you, Twitter. Case closed!" the NYPD posted Sunday afternoon, along with a photo of the happy couple.
