Black Mirror movie to arrive on December 28, Netflix announces with trailer

Gotta love Netflix! They like to keep subscribers on their toes by throwing surprises our way rather unexpectedly. The speculation first began after a since-deleted tweet from an official Netflix account listed the premiere date for the title, then believed to just be an episode in the fifth season, as Friday, Dec. 28.

Bandersnatch also has quite a role in pop culture - outside of the Black Mirror world.

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

Set to the new-wave sounds of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Relax", the trailer follows Stefan (Dunkirk's Fionn Whitehead), a young videogame programmer who decides to stop taking medication in order to focus on developing a game called Bandersnatch.

Set in 1984, Bandersnatch tells of a computer programmer trying to adapt a fantasy novel into a video game.

If audiences visit the domain, which is briefly mentioned in the first ever interactive movie, they'll find they're being recruited too - but for the streaming giant instead.

Are you excited to check out Black Mirror's interactive movie?

Did it work? Fans and critics have been giving the movie mixed reviews, but most are in favor. "If it wasn't interactive, you'd just watch and probably be appalled and anxious and frightened for him in that moment".

Carla Engelbrecht, Netflix's director of product innovation, added: "There are literally millions of permutations of the story, and your decisions matter". Your hands need to be ready (so no greasy or cheesy snacks) and definitely no multi-tasking.

"Almost every single Netflix household has a device that can play Bandersnatch", said Netflix vice president of product Todd Yellin.

Black Mirror has always been a master of warping its sci-fi around everything from romance (San Junipero) to heartbreaking drama (Be Right Back) to out-and-out horror (White Bear), and with Bandersnatch you can nearly decide yourself what kind of genre you want it to be, based on what decisions you make.
