QB Baker Mayfield breaks National Football League record for TD passes in rookie season

There's a bright future for both Baker Mayfield and Nick Chubb in the National Football League, with both of them hitting massive milestones in their rookie seasons.

The Ravens went 9-7 but were eliminated from the playoffs in Week 17 a year ago in a win-and-in situation vs. the Bengals by surrendering a 49-yard touchdown on fourth-and-12 from Andy Dalton to Tyler Boyd on the game's final play.

Mayfield finished 23-of-42 passing for 376 yards, with the three TDs and three interceptions for a 79.1 rating.

The second-year corner has played up to an All-Pro caliber level this season but didn't provide one of his best performances against the Browns. He was going the other direction but they blew it dead. The Browns had nothing to lose and no love lost for the Ravens or their fans. He also had another 33-yard TD run wiped out by a holding call. "He's a leader now", said Ravens rookie Gus Edwards, who chipped in with 76 yards rushing. It was the second time this season Mayfield threw three interceptions. After having incomplete pass to Breshad Perriman and Jarvis Landry overturned to catches via replay it came down to a 4th down play. The offense came out firing with scores on its first four possessions, but not before Jimmy Smith intercepted Baker Mayfield for the first time on only the game's fourth play from scrimmage. That is because the Ravens weren't just battling the Browns. The Ravens failed to convert the pick. He broke the record of 26 set by Indianapolis' Peyton Manning and Seattle's Russell Wilson, and he did it despite starting only 13 games. This was the Ravens' longest touchdown run of the season. Baker Mayfield hit wide open wide receivers way too often.

Jackson is quickly causing problems for Cleveland's defense in this game and it's only the first half.

Jackson ran 20 times overall.

All the Ravens had to do to make the playoffs was beat the Browns.

A win today would give the Browns their first winning record since 2007.

In the end it was a dog fight, but the result isn't what the Browns hoped. He was absolutely the Browns' player of the game. Sure, they miraculously tied their archrival Pittsburgh Steelers, but then got back to the "Same old Browns" mantra with eight points left on the table by kicker Zane Gonzalez in week two. The defense recovered a Jackson fumble at the goal line.

It prevented a nightmare repeat of previous year, when all the Ravens had to do was beat the Bengals at home to clinch, but gave up a 49-yard touchdown pass with 44 seconds left to fall. Baltimore took over at the Browns' 46 with 1:27 left in the half, but a Myles Garrett sack and a Ty Montgomery drop stymied the drive and they punted.

The celebration also came before Mayfield later hilariously threw shade at his former coach Hue Jackson, who now works for the Bengals.

The win ended the season for the Steelers, who had closed out their own victory over Cincinnati minutes earlier and were standing on their home field, cheering for the Browns as they watched the end of the game in Baltimore on the scoreboard. The Colts, only the third team in history to make the playoffs after a 1-5 start, play at Houston next Saturday in the wild card round. Flacco was behind center in 2012, when Baltimore captured its last division crown and ultimately won the Super Bowl.

Mayfield also dropped a flawless 38-yard strike over the shoulder of Antonio Callaway on the four-play drive.
