Chelsea target Gonzalo Higuain has great history with Maurizio Sarri

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is dipping his toe into the transfer market, but is not willing to make the plunge to strengthen his squad as we head into the second part of the season.

Higuain is on-loan at AC Milan from Juventus, which makes the deal a hard one to negotiate, especially in January.

It is understood that the centre-forward could join Chelsea immediately on loan from Juventus, with the option to buy him for £36million in the summer.

Chelsea could reportedly shift their focus towards signing Callum Wilson from Bournemouth, should they fail to acquire the services of Juventus' Gonzalo Higuain.

Current strikers, Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata, have only managed six Premier League goals between them this term.

The Argentina global set a new Serie A goal-scoring record under Sarri at the Stadio San Paolo in the 2015/16 campaign with 36 goals.

Wilson has scored nine Premier League goals this season, with Tottenham's Harry Kane the only English player with more.

"Higuain must find the real himself, he is living in a different situation for him, he left Juventus and he is here on loan".

"A goal can change things, but if he is to continue here, he needs to take on responsibility", Leonardo said, according to the Mirror.

When asked about Chelsea's interest in Higuain, Leonardo said: "There's no point following rumours and gossip. Seeing as he is here, he needs to get down and actually do something for this team".

The 31-year-old Argentina global reportedly wants to join his former Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri at the English club, who would take over Milan's option to eventually make the deal permanent.

The 26-yer-old Spaniard has struggled for form since his £65m arrival at Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid in 2017.
