DJ LeMahieu, Yankees Agree On 2-Year Contract

Joel Sherman of the New York Post recently reported that "word is neither [Harper or Machado] particularly likes Philadelphia", in a recent piece about the two prized free agents. Nats executives are now calling a reunion with Harper a "long shot" and have not had contact with Harper in over a month according to the report.

This is the first we're hearing of specific contract offers made to either player at this point in the offseason.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of ongoing negotiations, but the Phillies have become the most aggressive team in their pursuit for Harper while the Nationals' interest appears to be waning. The Phillies are the reported leaders for Harper after a meeting in Las Vegas over the weekend. The infielder met with both clubs a few weeks ago, but it appears neither has met Machado's asking price yet. On Friday, the Bronx Bombers added to an already impressive set of infielders by agreeing to terms with free agent second baseman D.J. LeMahieu.

Jeff Skversky of 6 ABC Philly spoke to both Middleton and Klentak after they landed back in the City of Brotherly Love.

But that's where an eight-year, $250 million contract offer could come in handy.

The Sox have tried to make things comfortable for Machado by trading for his brother-in-law, Yonder Alonso, and signing a good friend, free agent Jon Jay. Luckily for the Rockies, their farm system has always been one of the best in Major League Baseball, and it's time to see what one of those young guns can do. "We got to understand the man".

So if that then leaves a less-desperate Phillies vying with the Nats for Harper, the latter would have to be considered the favorite.

The New York Yankees have signed one of the MLB's top defensive players in DJ LeMahieu. Perhaps the two join forces in Philly. When will it end?
