Eden Hazard responds to Maurizio Sarri’s comments about his leadership ability

Cesar Azpilicueta was involved in a heated exchange with Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea's training ground this week, according to reports.

Chelsea provided the flawless response to manager Maurizio Sarri's public criticism to progress to the League Cup final by beating Tottenham 4-2 on penalties in a thrilling semi-final, second leg on Thursday (Jan 24).

"I would use their physicality to get the spaces I wanted and we played fantastically, so I understand for Eden".

Ross Barkley got the nod in the midfield against Spurs, but he received a wave of criticism on Twitter following his display despite the win.

"People will say they keep coming up short when it matters but I think they've a justifiable reason tonight".

After the Tottenham game, Sarri tried to redfine what he said before the game: "I didn't attack my players".

The Blues earned a 2-1 win after 90 minutes against Spurs at Stamford Bridge in the second leg, before four flawless penalties booked a spot in the final against Manchester City. "In two matches I think we deserved to win, and I think in this match we deserved to win without penalties". Now with this performance and result we can once again find enthusiasm which is very important.

"Semi-finals, finals, and I think we were regular in the top four, in some seasons we were contenders - in a different way that the teams that we are talking about". We did well for 90 minutes.

Kane is out injured, though, as is Dele Alli, while Son Heung-min is away on worldwide duty at the Asian Cup, leaving Mauricio Pochettino's side shorthanded as it looks to reach the final.

"I was really very happy with the performance before the penalties", he said.

This comes after the Blues hierarchy allowed the signing of Argentine football star Gonzalo Higuain which now puts pressure on Maurizio Sarri to deliver.

"We have three competitions still, the FA Cup on Sunday of course", Pochettino said. In the last three or four matches we were not able to be risky.

"I'd prefer to lose on penalties [than in the game]", he said.

"We are always close to the last step [to trophies] but to achieve it is the most hard thing", Pochettino told the Guardian before Sunday's FA Cup tie at Crystal Palace. Over 180 minutes it was 2-2.

"This is how the situation stands and when Eden responds to all this with performances like [against Tottenham], we're looking forward to seeing more and more of it".
