MWC 2019: HMD Unveils Nokia 9 PureView And Four Other Phones

According to HMD Global, the Nokia 9 PureView is able to focus on subjects anywhere from 7cm to 40 metres away from its rear-mounted cameras. The company worked closely with Qualcomm, and computational imaging company Light to get these five cameras working together seamlessly, enlisting Light to implement their proprietary Lux capacitor chip into Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 processor.

However, we also know that when a shot is taken, you get data from all of the cameras.

After months of rumors and leaks, it is finally here.

The star of the show is the all-new Nokia 9 PureView. The smartphone is made out of 6000 series aluminum and has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and has IP67 rating which makes it water and dust resistant. The company also announced the Nokia 210, a feature phone with internet connectivity. We like the mirrored blue finish stretching from the front to the back, the gleaming chamfered edges besetting the metal frame and the unfussy, notch-less bezels, even if they're not quite as slim as those on competing devices. That explain why the Snapdragon 845 was used as significant time has gone into R&D. It's a custom solution and moving that to Snapdragon 855 would have introduced long delays. Nokia 4.2 has dual 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear cameras, and an 8-megapixel selfie camera.

Nokia 9 PureView includes two RGB f/1.8 12-megapixels sensors and three monochrome f/1.8 12-megapixel sensors. Of the cluster of sensors on the back of the phone, five are cameras.

Each of the cameras has the same focal length and field of view. In fact, HMD partnered with Light to deliver the goods. By the time its first Android phone, the Nokia 6, emerged in January of 2017, it was clear the company was onto something. Hence, Lightroom is not installed by default but is offered as an option during initial setup. In addition to that camera-powerhouse flagship, we're also getting a handful of new affordably priced models, as the Nokia 4.2, Nokia 3.2, and Nokia 1 Plus all premiere alongside it.

Honestly, the design of the new camera looks a lot like a spider's eye. You can also record 4K HDR videos with Spatial audio capture using this device. The camera does not have OIS or optical image stabilization, only EIS or Electronic Image Stabilization for video. The handset has a bigger battery of 2,500mAh capacity. So, if you want to listen to music you'll be forced to use Bluetooth or USB-C headphones. As a result, the Nokia 9 PureView can take better portrait photos, which can rival those taken from a DSLR. There is only one color and RAM/storage version in the offing and the production volume will be limited. HMD said it would manufacture a set number of units and would not continue fabrication once stock runs out.

HMD Global's chief product officer Juho Sarvikas just recently shared an Instagram post from a photographer, which gave hints of a photo being captured and edited on a Nokia device.
