JuJu Smith-Schuster and Antonio Brown in social media war of words

JuJu Smith-Schuster and Antonio Brown in social media war of words

Smith-Schuster had previously defended Ben Roethlisberger, with whom Brown clearly has beef.

In case you missed it, or avoided it, the former Pittsburgh Steelers teammates spent much of Sunday trading public jabs on Twitter.

That got him some predictably snarky feedback, to which Brown encouraged "emotional" Pittsburgh fans to purchase the Raiders jersey he now wears, a result of the Steelers acquiescing to his trade demand and dealing him last month to Oakland. Steelers players vote for the award, which Brown had won four times in nine years.

What did Brown think this post was going to accomplish? Twitter rushed to Smith-Schuster's defense, pointing out that Brown didn't play in all 16 games past year and has a higher fumble to catch ratio in his career than Smith-Schuster.

Brown's unprompted tweet referred to Smith-Schuster's critical fumble in Week 16 against the New Orleans Saints last season. The two receivers were cordial, with Smith-Schuster deferring to Brown at every turn, out of respect for his All-Pro pedigree. ". now he takes shots at me on social media?" He also replied to a handful of other posts, coming to the defense of Smith-Schuster. "Onlookers may not be able to tell the difference".

When focusing on football, Brown has proven to be one of the most explosive receivers in the NFL, and watching him catch 15 touchdown passes in 2018 shows he has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.

"What's up AB?" Smith-Schuster wrote. Some at the time couldn't help but wonder whether it was just by happenstance that the background of the photo included an onlooking Brown. That had provoked Brown to criticize Smith-Schuster for brown-nosing because he is still on his rookie contract. He added, "Sad but true". Today, he shared with the world a DM he received from Smith-Schuster in 2015 asking for advice.

Looks like Brown might need to watch his back during that game.

As a result, Brown has fallen under harsh criticism from media and fans alike, and it doesn't seem like he is taking it too well.
