Assange to Get No 'Special Treatment' From Canberra - Australian PM

His protection at the embassy ended yesterday when Ecuadorian president Lenin Moreno said his nation had "reached its limit on the behaviour of Mr Assange".

He listed a series of alleged transgressions by Assange during his time at the embassy, including installing electronic equipment that was not allowed, blocking security cameras, mistreating guards, and accessing embassy security files without permission. He lists the war crimes exposed by WikiLeaks and hopes that Assange's extradition to the United States will be met with "mass protest".

Speaking on Thursday Prime Minister Theresa May said Mr Assange's arrest showed no one is above the law. As the government now tries to get on the good side of the US, Assange was the main thing the Americans wanted, and Ecuador seems more than willing to try to facilitate that.

Assange had taken refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since 2012 in order to avoid being extradited to Sweden to face sexual assault charges. Assange was arrested earlier Thursday at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, and the USA has charged him with conspiring with former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to break into a classified government computer at the Pentagon. Ecuador agreed that his potential extradition to the U.S. may violate his human rights.

Judge Michael Snow at the Westminster Magistrates' Court said he will be sentenced on May 2 at Southwark Crown Court, as Assange is now facing a prison term of up to 12 months.

Assange's seven-year hideout in Ecuador's London embassy ended dramatically yesterday when police dragged the WikiLeaks founder out of the building into a waiting van.

Foreign Office minister Sir Alan Duncan told the Daily Telegraph: "We don't extradite anybody to a country where they might face the death penalty without that routine assurance".

In 2010, Assange was accused of rape and molestation by a Swedish woman. "He was detained this afternoon", she told Sonorama radio station.

"Too bad my case could never be investigated properly, but the arrest will not change this, the case has already been closed".
