Celtics: Marcus Smart out 4-6 weeks partially torn oblique muscle

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Celtics guard Marcus Smart could be sidelined for the first two rounds of the National Basketball Association playoffs due to a torn oblique on his left side.

Smart's injury occurred at the 6:44 mark in the third quarter of the Celtics' 116-108 loss to the Orlando Magic on Sunday.

Stevens revealed that Smart was walking around in the locker room after the game, but the team has now confirmed that he suffered a partial avulsion of his left oblique abdominal muscle of his iliac crest that will keep him out for at least four to six weeks.

Smart being out is a serious blow to the Celtics on the defensive end, and with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown a little banged up, as well, Boston is not near 100 percent coming into a playoff matchup with the Pacers.

Just days before the Celtics are set to host IN in Game 1 of a first-round series, the news struck a damaging blow to Boston's postseason chances.

Smart appeared in 80 games (60 starts) for Boston this season.

Smart, who signed a four-year, $52 million deal with Boston as a restricted free agent last summer, shot career-bests from both the field (42.2 percent) and from deep (36.4 percent) this season.

That said, Boston still has the more talented team than the Victor Oladipo-less Indiana Pacers and should be able to take down Coach Nate McMillan's ball club.
