Kim Jong Un says he's open to another summit with Trump

But Kim blew both hot and cold, chastising Washington for the failure of the Hanoi pow-wow.

Mr Kim said the United States had been refusing to withdraw what the North perceived as "hostile policies" while sticking to "mistaken judgment that we would succumb to maximum pressure".

"With respect to our negotiations with North Korea, I don't have anything to add other than even after Hanoi we've continued to have conversations", Pompeo said during a news conference in Paraguay. Mr Choe replaces Kim Yong Nam, 91, who had served North Korea's two previous rulers: Kim Jong Un's father and grandfather.

Kim said he will wait "till the end of this year" for the United States to decide to be more flexible, according to KCNA.

Kim complained that Washington is coercing South Korea into abiding by sanctions and not pushing forward with inter-Korea projects.

"If it keeps thinking that way, it will never be able to move the DPRK even a knuckle nor gain any interests no matter how many times it may sit for talks with the DPRK", he said in remarks carried by the state Korean Central News Agency on Saturday. North Korean officials have since threatened to pull out of the talks and restart nuclear and missile tests. "By that sort of thinking, the United States will not be able to move us one iota even if they sat with us a hundred, thousand times, and will not be able to get what it wants at all", he said.

North Korean state media reported the comments by Mr Kim on Saturday. But experts also see the hand of national security adviser John Bolton in the administration's maximalist demands, advancing what amounts to an unrealistic ultimatum.

But he went on to say: "We are willing to give another try if the United States offers to have a third summit with the right attitude and mutually acceptable terms". "As wind is bound to bring waves, the USA open hostile policy toward the DPRK will naturally bring our corresponding acts".

Pyongyang will give the USA till the end of the year to drop "its current calculation method" with regards to bilateral talks and come up with "a correct posture" instead, Kim said, the state-run KCNA news agency reported on Saturday.

He also reiterated that his problem was with Trump's administration, not the president himself. But Kim said his personal relationship with Trump remains good and that they could exchange letters at "any time". He's exploited his new relationship with South Korea and his revitalized ties to China.

Kim Dong-yup, of Kyungnam University's Institute for Far Eastern Studies in South Korea, told Reuters Mr Kim's remarks signalled he would not cling to talks with United States forever and could instead look "to diversify its diplomatic relations with other countries". "A third summit could happen", Trump said.

Trump and Kim met for the first time in Singapore past year.

NPRlooked at the changes Kim made and found it hard to guess exactly what he thinks the next step will be since he did not back away from either "negotiations with the USA or a self-imposed moratorium on testing of missiles and bombs".

"A lack of U.S".

Telling North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly that USA diplomats came to the last meeting, which ended abruptly in late February with no agreement, without "a clear direction and methodology", Kim had tough words for the Trump administration in his speech Friday.
