FB, Instagram, WhatsApp go down in outage

Facebook went down Sunday morning, in an outage that has affected all of the company's social media platforms.

Users had taken to the internet to complain about their temporary lack of access.

Unofficially, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp appeared to be working again shortly after 9 a.m. At the time of writing, Facebook (who also owns Instagram and WhatsApp) has yet to issue a statement addressing this problem.

The graphs that measure the number of complaints received by Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp users all look the same.

Those outages were first reported just before 7 a.m. Sunday, April 14.

"We are now experiencing issues that may cause some API requests to take longer or fail unexpectedly". That's because the trio was down world-wide for over two hours today. Downdetector.com's live outage map showed that the issues were mainly in Europe, Asia and the US.

Facebook experienced a similar global outage on March 13, 2019, which they said was due to a server change.

An email requesting comment about the outage was sent to Facebook by The Associated Press.
