Denver schools on lockdown as woman accused of threats against Columbine

Authorities have not provided any additional information at this time.

Police across the metro area are working with the FBI to investigate the threat.

Pais, who flew into Denver International Airport Monday and bought a gun in Littleton, has been the subject of a manhunt Wednesday morning.

School security chief John McDonald talks with judicial specialist Maryann Peratt in Columbine High Schools new library, which was built after the 1999 attack.

In a lockout, exterior doors are locked, and school continues as normal.

In addition to Denver Public Schools, which serves almost 100,000 students across roughly 200 schools, numerous other school districts said they would not open on Wednesday as a precaution.

"She can come home".

While the State of Colorado requires that purchasers of firearms submit to a background check, the process typically takes about fifteen minutes.

Authorities say she is a threat to herself and the community. This sentence fragment means there's no probable cause to indicate that Pais has committed a crime.

The Colorado Department of Public Safety later alerted schools throughout the Denver metropolitan area to the threat, recommending they conduct a "controlled release" of students from classes in the afternoon.

Someone reported a woman matching her description was running naked through the woods with a gun, CBS Denver reported. He added that he wanted residents to know that "we have a lot of boots on the ground". We are focusing on working with our law enforcement and school safety partners to make sound decisions to keep our students and staff as safe as possible.

Police are searching the home of a young Florida woman who is allegedly obsessed with the 1999 Columbine school massacre and the subject of a search in Colorado.

Students leave Columbine High School on Tuesday.

Pais' body was found off a trail not far from the base of Mount Evans, a recreation area about 60 miles southwest of Denver, authorities said.

Spokeswoman Jackie Calzadilla says school officials are "fully assisting the FBI in their investigation". Another classmate, 17-year-old Drew Burnstine, described Pais as quiet and smart. Pais was last seen near Columbine in a black T-shirt, camouflage trousers, and black boots.

The threat is not isolated to one school or individual, police said.

Police say they received a "credible threat", but, the threat did not name a specific school.

Pais has no specific known connections to Colorado, Phillips said.

All classes and extracurricular activities for about a half-million students were canceled as a precaution.

Pais is about 5-foot-5, has brown hair and was last seen in the foothills of Jefferson County wearing a black T-shirt, camouflage trousers and black boots, authorities said.

Almost two dozen schools in the Jefferson County Public Schools district have been on lockdown throughout the afternoon as a result of the threat.

Authorities in Colorado are looking for an 18-year-old woman suspected of making threats against Columbine high school, just days before the 20th anniversary of a mass shooting that killed 13 students and teachers at the school.

Jeffco Public Schools for Tuesday had continued with all after-school activities, sports and practices as scheduled except for at Columbine, where all such activities were canceled, and Denver Public Schools said its schools planned to move after-school activities inside.
