Avengers: Endgame Shatters Records With $1.2 Billion Global Opening

"Endgame" also shattered the opening record in North America.

Other films in the top 10 dropped 68% on average as the Disney film soaked up all moviegoing oxygen. The film which opened in Indian theaters on Friday, managed to collect over Rs 104 crore within 2 days of its release, reports Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

In Hollywood, Susan Macias, 44, watched all 22 Marvel films at the historic El Capitan Theatre in a sold-out marathon that concluded with "Endgame". The previous record was also set by "Infinity Wars", which opened in 4,474 theaters and earned $57,599 per location. It follows the original six Avengers including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) who come together one final time for the fight of their lives.

A man reportedly began yelling out the plot of the film while people queued up to see the film in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. It has surpassed the record held by its predecessor, Avengers: Infinity War, which made $641 million during its opening last April, according to CNN.

Endgame tore through records as the film rocketed past $1 billion worldwide and to say thank you for the film's well-earned success, executive members of Marvel Studios, as well as the Russo brothers themselves, turned up at multiple film showtimes across the Los Angeles area. The film crossed the $1 billion threshold in just five days, breaking the eleven day record set byInfinity War . The film has already out grossed fourteen of the MCU's other 21 movies in its opening weekend and has resulted in the biggest industry opening weekend of all time across all regions and in 44 markets.

Spoilers were expected to be a problem for "Endgame", and they were.

Jordan Peele's Us lifted its six-week cum to $172.8 million by taking in $1.1 million over the weekend and landing in ninth place, albeit tied with the documentary Penguins, which also brought in $1.1 million in its second week of release. It also now holds the largest opening weekend with $330.5 million, almost matching the entirety of the domestic weekend total.
