Watch Adam Sandler Sing About Being Fired From Saturday Night Live

"When he went up there ... his opening was great and he did some self-deprecatory ... humor and he was so amusing about it, you know, saying, I haven't been here and he got fired from SNL, he said".

When reminded by Sandler that he hadn't actually been fired, Davidson quipped, "I wasn't?"

Sandler then wrapped up the tune with a jab at TV network NBC, and crooned, "NBC said I was done, then I made over $4 billion at the box office, so I guess you could say I won".

In his opening monologue, Sandler said being on "SNL" was "the greatest time of my life" and also addressed his firing in 1995 with a song called - appropriately - "I was sacked". On an SNL that also featured him singing about how the show fired one of the biggest stars in the world nearly a quarter century ago, we got our answer: from his family.

"I was sacked by NBC, then I went on In Living Colour, three weeks later they took it off TV", he said.

He sang that between seasons he "heard a nasty rumour that I was getting the sack" and tried to call creator Lorne Michaels and joked that "he never call me back".

"I was sacked, I was fired, NBC said that I was done", he says. "Yes, we were [fired]", Sandler said in a 2014 interview. "It hurt a lot at the time because we were young and didn't know where we were going, but it all worked out".

Ahead of Sandler's appearance, NBC shared an SNL "Highlight" video featuring Sandler's Canteen Boy character.

However, Sandler also recalled Farley's hard-partying days that led to his death and the heartbreak from attending his friend's funeral.

"After a show he'd drink a quart of Jack Daniels", Sandler sang. "They always have to take that obligatory hit at the president". Sandler originally debuted this song in his Netflix special "Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh" a year ago to commemorate the 21st anniversary of Farley's untimely death at age 33.

The 25-year-old claims his mother took him to audition for Big Daddy back in the late 1990s.
