But it seems like Prince George could have inspired part of the newborn's name months ago after bumping into a member of the public while on a country dog walk with his sister, Princess Charlotte, and his grandma, Carole Middleton in Berkshire.

Singer Katy Perry and model Chrissy Teigen were either thrilled about Bradley's three-inning outing in extra innings against the Tampa Bay Rays, or gleeful about the new baby.

Meghan, meanwhile, said their son has the "sweetest temperament".

Unlike many senior royals, Archie only has one middle name.

According to the website Bounty, Archie was the 11th-most popular baby name among new parents in 2019, while data analytic company SEMrush shows it was also the UK's 10th-most popular name for dogs.

The name "Archie" is now trending in the Number 1 spot on social media worldwide.

The American former actress gave birth to the overdue 7lb 3oz boy at 5.26am on Monday.

Archie is the baby's full first name, not a shortened version of Archibald.

"Instead of a traditional royal name, they chose a name they loved", said CNN's royal correspondent Max Foster. He is seventh in line to the throne.

Harry's appearance comes a day after he and Meghan Markle introduced baby Archie to the world as they posed for a photocall at Windsor Castle.

Harry cradled his newborn son throughout the unveiling and admitted it is hard to tell who the baby looks like yet.

"Parenting is incredible, it's only been two-and-half days, three days, but we're just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy and share some precious times with him as he slowly starts to grow up".

Royal watchers knew not to expect an immediate public appearance of the baby, as the expectant parents had previously signalled that they meant to spend the first few days together as a family in private.

Harry, who was greeted by cheering fans and children, mingled with veterans as they practiced in a gymnasium, stopping at one point to try his hand at archery.

His wife, Meghan, added: "It's magic, it's pretty unbelievable".
