Donald Trump executive order appears to target Huawei

President Donald Trump is poised to issue an executive order as early as Wednesday that would effectively prohibit USA companies from using any telecoms equipment manufactured by China's Huawei. The move would be aimed at addressing perceived dangers posed by Chinese tech maker Huawei, which the United States has accused of spying on behalf of the Chinese government.

Mr Trump signed an executive order which accused foreign powers of targeting USA technology, and industrial espionage.

The order directs the Commerce Department, working with other government agencies, to draw up a plan for enforcement.

The issue has taken on new urgency as US wireless carriers rollout 5G networks.

The order authorizes the government to block transactions of communications technologies built by firms controlled by a foreign adversary that puts United States security at "unacceptable" risk, The Washington Post reported.

Taken together, the two moves threaten Huawei's ability to continue to sell many products because of its reliance on American suppliers, and represents a significant escalation in the USA government's worldwide campaign against the company.

He said Huawei had long cooperated with Britain's National Cyber Security Centre's oversight of its technology, and it had improved its software engineering capabilities to make them the equal of competitors.

Huawei is a tool of the Chinese government.

The Chinese company has denied that its work poses any risks of espionage or sabotage.

The U.S. fears the Chinese government will use its power and ties to snoop on American interests through the gear, a charge the company has denied.

Donald Trump ratcheted up his battle with China for dominance of 5G technology networks, moving to curb Huawei Technologies Co.'s access to the US market and American suppliers.

Donald Trump has signed an executive order banning all American companies from using the firm.

Huawei is the world's largest maker of telecoms equipment. Segal said that with U.S.

All major USA wireless carriers and internet providers had already sworn off Chinese-made equipment after a 2012 report by the House Intelligence Committee said Huawei and ZTE, China's No. 2 telecoms equipment company, should be excluded as enablers of Beijing-directed espionage. Meng, who maintains her innocence, is fighting extradition.

Mr Trump had already barred the United States government from use of Huawei equipment, but has now extended that to all USA companies.
