Waugh warns Australia to beware 'behemoth' West Indies line-up

The ground is renowned as a batsman's paradise, with England having twice set the world record for the highest score in a one-day worldwide -- 444 for three against Pakistan in 2016 and last year's 481 for six - on the very pitch that will be used for Monday's match at Trent Bridge.

Mumbai: West Indies are the most watchable side in this year's Cricket World Cup and every team will be wary of facing them, former Australia captain Steve Waugh has said.

But Pakistan's batsmen had anything but an easy ride in Nottingham as they succumbed to a bouncer barrage from the West Indies that saw them slump to 105 all out and a comprehensive defeat in their opening match of the World Cup on Friday.

"We're focussing on restoring the pride in West Indies cricket so we have our reasons, we have our goal for being here and we're just taking it one game at a time".

"Obviously a very risky team the way they bat and aggressive bowling, but they've got weaknesses as well and we're playing pretty good cricket". "Intent is something that we spoke about in the dressing room, and it's something that we want to go about our goal with when we go into our innings".

Labelling the Caribbean side's batting as a "behemoth" while praising the attack as having "fast-bowling depth", Waugh said West Indies carried a massive threat which Australia would not have dealt with in their opening win over Afghanistan last weekend.

"The ground will be one way for both teams; that's one thing guaranteed".

"If it´s a situation where we feel a batsman may be susceptible to the short ball, then we´re going to use it", he said.

"Some of the other grounds we might look to play two spinners ... but probably not here".

"It's just not [that we are] stuck on the short ball".

All the teams will play each other once, there's nine games each before those semi-finals, so I don't think England will be too anxious. Kemar Roach was seen sending down some thunderbolts to the batsmen so the only change likely to take place is him coming in to replace Sheldon Cottrell.

"We're taking it one game at a time".

They played the West Indies in an unofficial warm-up match a fortnight ago, where Usman Khawaja was taken to hospital for scans on his jaw after copping a blow from Russell.

"We may get early wickets, we may not".

"I think it (drafting Wood) will be discussed, to be honest", he said.

A lot has been written about the unpredictability of Pakistan cricket, sublime one day, ridiculous the next, with some even regarding this randomness as an asset or strength, since rival teams are often left wondering as to "which" Pakistani side would turn up on a particular day! I think all teams are evenly matched and well-balanced, so it's just a matter of playing good cricket on any given day.

"They got a number of unsafe players", he said. "I am sure he will think about it with Trevor (England coach Bayliss) and couple of senior players and then come up with a plan". We're up for the challenge.

"When I was growing up they were my heroes, but they're not my heroes today."
