The New Nokia 2.2 Is Insanely Cheap and Will Support Android Q

The phone features a 3,000mAh battery to keep the lights on.

The Nokia phone company HMD Global has announced the launch a new budget Android phone for the U.S. market, which will be sold through the AT&T operator under the Nokia 3.1 A and through Cricket Wireless, a subsidiary of AT&T, with the Nokia 3.1 C model.

Now to the pricing of the phone: the Nokia 2.2 smartphone with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage is being offered at Rs 6,999 and the 3GB/32GB variant at Rs 7,999. Effective July 1, the prices will be Rs 7,699 and Rs 8,699 respectively. As for the Nokia 3.1 C, it'll be offered at Cricket stores and on the company's website beginning June 14.

Reliance Jio subscribers will get an instant cashback of ₹2,200 along with 100 GB of additional data.

Dubbed the Nokia 2.2, the new entry-level phone is the sequel to last year's Nokia 2.1 which launched in the U.S as the Nokia 2V.

Moving onto the hardware specifications, the Nokia 2.2 rocks a 5.71-inch HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio and a teardrop notch display. The bezels around the display are narrow but the chin is slightly thick. We have already seen these in phones like the Nokia 3.2 and the Nokia 4.2 that were launched earlier this year. The camera comes with Google Lens support and some other shooting modes as well. While the Google Pixel 3 series employs a 12MP camera, the Nokia 2.2 features a 13MP camera that uses "sophisticated AI powered low-light image fusion" to take detailed low light photographs. The smartphone will come in two variants - 2GB RAM/16GB storage and 3GB RAM/32GB storage.

Its performance will be powered by a quad-core MediaTek A22 processor alongside a 2GB/3GB RAM with 16GB/32GB storage that is expandable via a MicroSD card slot. But I'll reserve my judgment till I review the smartphone.

"We believe in providing a better consumer experience by providing up-to-date software, so people do not have to change their phones too often", he said. The device lacks the fingerprint sensor, but the front cam does supports Face unlock. The Android One-based Nokia 2.2 runs Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box and HMD Global claims it'll receive Android Q as well. On the camera front, the Nokia 3.1 A comes with a 8MP A/F rear camera with F2.0 aperture along with a 5MP F2.2 selfie camera.
