Toronto's mayor defends Raptors fans, says cheers after Durant injury 'overstated'

The MVP of the last two National Basketball Association championship series, Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant, finally made his big comeback on Monday night from a strained calf - and quickly suffered what appears to be a season-ending Achilles injury.

The lone loss? In 2016, when the Warriors fell to LeBron James and the Cavaliers as part of Cleveland's historic comeback from a 3-1 deficit to capture its first National Basketball Association championship.

The Toronto Raptors almost won their first NBA Championship on Monday but couldn't seal the deal, losing 106-105 to the Golden State Warriors. Myers also said that he is willing to accept the blame for the decision to play Durant in Game 5. "I'm lucky to know him".

The eight 3s the Warriors made in Game 4 of this series were tied for the fewest that they've made in 27 Finals games over the last five years.

But the Warriors, who lost Kevin Durant to an Achilles injury in the second quarter, came out firing and used some quick passing to set up a number of easy looks while taking advantage of some Toronto turnovers.

Nurse called the pair of timeouts with 3 minutes 5 seconds left in the game after Fred VanVleet grabbed a defensive rebound and was on his way down the floor with the ball. But instead of having a refreshing effect, the break in action squashed Toronto's momentum completely and prompted Golden State's game-winning run. I think they were the ones kind of saying to the crowd, "Let's check ourselves a little bit" and understand this is about an individual, a human being and not 'Oh, shoot, he's out, he's hurt, we won the championship.' That was probably their initial thought.

Aaron said she's always been a fan who watches more during the playoffs than the regular season.

An emotional Bob Myers, direct of basketball operations for Golden State, said Durant would need an MRI to determine the full extent of the injury on his Achilles heel.

The Raptors, seeking a first title, had led the seven-match Finals series 3-1, an advantage that has only been overturned once in play-off history.

If they win the next two games for another championship, it'll be for Durant.

In addition to Curry's 3, the Warriors got 26 from Klay Thompson and a very underrated 14 from DeMarcus Cousins off the bench.

The Raptors will head back into enemy territory for Game 6 to the Oracle Arena on Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET. And some Raptors players, including Kyle Lowry, urged those fans who were cheering the sight of Durant limping to stop. We felt good about the process.

"We are investigating several separate incidents in the city last night, but we have not confirmed they are connected to the Raptors' game or crowds at this time", police said.
