Grizzlies trade Mike Conley to Jazz for three players, report says

The Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies held talks about a trade involving point guard Mike Conley Jr., but the talks have stalled and could pick up at a later date according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

The move nearly certainly means that guard Ricky Rubio will be elsewhere next season, even after he averaged 12.7 points and 6.1 assists for the Jazz this season.

National Basketball Association star Mike Conley Jr. on Wednesday said he was "excited" to join the Utah Jazz after reports the Memphis Grizzlies were trading him to Salt Lake City in a blockbuster deal. The most valuable such asset remaining in Boston's warchest is the 2020 first-round pick owed them by none other than the Griz. Conley now joins star guard Donovan Mitchell in the Jazz backcourt, a move that could make the team a top contender in the Western Conference.

While rumors the team was interested in trading for Conley themselves were most likely tied to securing Anthony Davis' future in Boston - now a non-issue with the latter player now headed to the Los Angeles Lakers - the move still has significance for the Celtics.

Shortly after the news broke of him being reportedly traded to the Utah Jazz, Mike Conley took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the deal.

Last season, Rubio averaged 12.7 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 40 percent from the field. He is scheduled to make $32.5 million next season and stands to make $34.5 million during the 2020-21 season. He was just off his career highs with 6.4 assists per game and averaged 1.3 steals per game. Memphis is home. Always!.Time for another chapter!

The Grizzlies are busy rebuilding after drafting Jaren Jackson Jr. with the fourth overall pick previous year, and they hold the No. 2 pick overall for Thursday night's draft, which is likely to be point guard Ja Morant of Murray State as Conley's replacement.
