American businesses should be proud of our country's history, not abandoning it. Nike has made its decision, and now we're making ours.

Kaepernick, a Nike endorser, reached out to the footwear and apparel giant to let them know his dissatisfaction with their newly slated planned release of the Nike Air Max 1 Quick Strike "Fourth of July" USA-themed sneakers. This flag has 13 stars as opposed to 50 since it pays homage to the 13 original American colonies. According to the Library of Congress, legend says that George Washington commissioned Ross, a Philadelphia seamstress, to create the flag in 1776. The design recently has taken another meaning for some Americans as far-right groups have claimed it as a symbol of their cause.

He pointed out that New Balance, "which employs hundreds of our fellow US citizens right in the great state of ME", has plenty of alternatives to Nike's offerings. The tweet said "Hey @Kaepernick7 after a lot of thought, we have decided it's best to just do it. #America".

Last September, Nike introducing Kaepernick as the new face of its "Just Do It" ad campaign.

Nike said it still intends to build a new manufacturing plant, but the company did not say if it would be located in Goodyear as previously planned. Arizona's state commerce authority, which falls under the governor's jurisdiction, was set to deliver an additional $1 million in incentives.

A report from the Wall Street Journal said former National Football League quarterback-turned-social justice activist Colin Kaepernick convinced Nike to pull its sneakers featuring the early American flag because he found the shoe to be offensive. Anger and boycott calls on social media led to a brief dip for the company's stock, which later rebounded.

The ADL's comments comes after Nike pulled a shoe featuring the flag after Colin Kaepernick voiced his concern over the flag.

"So why not choose a flag that is representative of everybody?" he asked. The shoes aren't available through the company's apps or websites, the newspaper said.

The flag has come under controversy this week, with Colin Kaepernick speaking out about a pair of Nike shoes that featured Betsy Ross' flag on the heel.
