Jeffrey Epstein Arrested in NY for Sex Trafficking of Minors

"Law enforcement sources told NBC 4 NY that Epstein is expected to appear in federal court in Manhattan on Monday".

According to The Daily Beast, Epstein will be charged with one count of sex trafficking of minors and one count of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of minors, and could face a maximum of 45 years in prison if convicted.

The Miami Herald reports that Epstein is expected to be arraigned in federal court in NY on Monday on charges that he molested dozens of underage girls.

Attorney Alan M. Dershowitz, the Miami Herald Co. and an independent blogger, Michael Cernovich, sought the unsealing of records in the case. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the specific counts remain under seal.

Two law enforcement officials said Epstein was taken into federal custody Saturday, July 6, 2019, on charges involving sex-trafficking allegations that date to the 2000s.

The financier also has ties to President Trump, who was his neighbor in Palm Beach, Florida, and also reportedly flew on Epstein's jet.

Epstein is a politically-connected hedge fund manager, who's been closely associated with former President Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew, the son of Queen Elizabeth II.

A federal judge ruled on February 21 that prosecutors at the Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida broke the law when arranging the plea deal, because they failed to notify Epstein's alleged victims during plea negotiations, in violation of the Crime Victims' Rights Act.

Epstein's arrest, first reported by The Daily Beast, comes amid renewed scrutiny of a once-secret plea deal that ended a federal investigation against him.

Epstein's 13-month sentence was one of the most lenient seen in US history for a serial sex offender.

Epstein, 66, has always been alleged to having assembled what the Miami Herald has called "a large, cult-like network of underage girls - with the help of young female recruiters - to coerce into having sex acts behind the walls of his opulent waterfront mansion".

Marra wrote that the prosecutors, including US Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta, concealed information from victims of Epstein.
