U.S. Soccer President Carlos Cordeiro Interrupted by Boos, Equal Pay Chants

In an interview Tuesday on CNN, Rapinoe said that winning the World Cup was "huge for the lawsuit", in terms of swaying even more "public perception to our side", but that the conversation had moved past equal pay, given how her team had proved its worth.

The law is part of Cuomo's Women's Justice Agenda which also includes a measure stopping companies asking prospective employees about their salary history.

Cuomo announced the news on Twitter Wednesday morning, sharing a photo of himself with the newly-singed legislation at the USWNT World Cup celebration in lower Manhattan.

"It was kind of considered a men's sport, so it's really cool to see the women's team stepping up and winning some", said Paige Britton, 15.

"Sorry-ass f*cking men from the USA soccer team ain't ever won sh*t, ain't gonna ever win sh*t, can't even get out of the f*cking first round. Thank you @USWNT for helping lead this movement for change!" "FIFA and the U.S. Soccer conference have done this team a disservice and an injustice". Now can they score equal pay?

Girls in soccer uniforms accompanied the team as ABC broadcaster Robin Roberts introduced each one at a ceremony at New York's City Hall. "United States of America!" as the hourlong ticker-tape parade moved up a stretch of lower Broadway that has long hosted such celebrations for world leaders, veterans and hometown sports stars.

U.S. Soccer Federation President Carlos Cordeiro also mentioned the women's equal pay fight during his speech.

Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat, was inspired to sponsor the legislation after receiving a letter from West Virginia University's women's soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown, asking for his support for the US Women's National Team's pursuit of equal pay, he said in a statement. "And together I believe we can get this done. because as this team has taught us, being the greatest isn't just about how you play on the field, it's about what you stand for off the field".

World Cup Golden Boot victor Megan Rapinoe also called for the conversations on equal pay to move forward to the next stage. "I think we're done with, 'Are we worth it, should we have equal pay, is the market the same?' Yada yada". "We'll look at that". These athletes generate more revenue and garner higher TV ratings but get paid less simply because they are women. "They are the best in the world and deserve to be paid accordingly". "You have to pay a woman for the same work in the state of NY".

The victorious United States women's national football team celebrate their victorious World Cup campaign with a ticker-tape parade down New York City's "Canyon of Heroes" along Broadway from Battery to City Hall.
